Camilla House Hotel

Simon and Susan Chapman run Camilla House Hotel in Penzance. Both share a keen vision of what it takes for a hotel in Cornwall to succeed.

“Gone are the days when you just provide accommodation. What we try to provide is all round service and we see technology as a fundamental part of that –we want to use technology to make the whole environment easier for guests” says Simon. “Broadband now has an impact the whole way through the process – when guests first contact us, when they are here and when they want to find out what to do here.”

Since signing up to broadband with actnow, Simon and Susan installed a wireless network at Camilla House. As well as two PCs which they use to run the business, there is an Apple Mac available for guests’ own use.

“We encourage guests to go online to find out about local attractions and facilities – and we have bookmarked some favourites to help them find their way.”

Guests can connect their own laptop to the broadband wireless network. “It means they can connect with their office if they want to”.

Broadband has also made a difference to the way the business is run.

“Dealing with suppliers is just so much easier with a broadband connection. We always use the Internet to find refurbishers, equipment manufacturers and so on. We order our stationery over the Net, a lot of our consumables, even foodstuffs. Saving time through this type of supply chain management is of great benefit to us.”

actnow has been crucial in helping us create a different kind of hotel experience at Camilla House” says Simon. “With broadband, it is so much easier to add value and compete effectively whilst still ensuring we have the maximum time to spend with our guests.”
